BOT to meet April 27-29Chancellor Joe B. Wyatt will meet with the full Board of Trust Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29, for the last time in his official capacity as chief executive officer of Vanderbilt University. The spring meeting is expected to be routine in terms of meetings scheduled and reports planned but also will include tributes to Wyatt, who has headed the University since 1982. He will be honored at a Saturday night gala. During the Friday luncheon, movie, television and stage director Delbert Mann, a longtime board member, will receive the University's Distinguished Alumnus Award. Faculty will also be honored for their contributions. Wyatt will announce and introduce the recipients of the Harvie Branscomb Distinguished Professor Award, the Alexander Heard Distinguished Service Award, the Madison Sarratt Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, the Ellen Gregg Ingalls Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching and the Chairs of Teaching Excellence. At least two new members will be chosen to serve on the board. Each spring a member representing the Alumni Association is chosen to succeed a retiring alumni representative. The board also chooses each spring from among three graduating seniors a representative to serve as one of the board's four Young Alumni Trustees. The board also will hear from representatives of the faculty, staff and student body. Expected to address the board Saturday morning are nursing and psychology professor Kenneth A. Wallston, chair of the Faculty Senate; Pamela Ferguson, Student Government Association president; Jack Driscoll, Owen Graduate School of Management Student Association president; and Terrie Spetalnick, University Staff Advisory Council president. Among the committee meetings that are planned are Buildings and Grounds, Athletics, Public and Government Relations, Student Affairs, Academic Programs, and the Medical Center Board.
