marks the national "Week of the Young Child," a time when policymakers,
educators, physicians and parents alike concentrate their energies to
improve kids' early years. Vanderbilt's John F. Kennedy Center for Research
on Human Development has assembled a Web site celebrating both the week
and the message it sends. "The Kennedy Center is committed to producing
new knowledge about early childhood education and about children with
disabilities," said Jan Rosemergy, the Kennedy Center's director of
communications and community relations. "Providing this Web site as
a service gives us an opportunity to provide information to families,
early childhood educators and child advocates such as legislators."
The site provides focused information on the goals of the Week of the
Young Child by pointing visitors to sites offering everything from research
papers to case studies on early childhood development. Rosemergy said
the Kennedy Center plans to maintain the site year-round as a resource
on early childhood development. Schedules and descriptions of the events
planned locally for the Week of the Young Child are available on the
Web site.
