Susan Gray School taps Farran as new director

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Dale Farran has been appointed the new director of the Susan Gray School for Children at the John F. Kennedy Center. Farran also has been named an associate director of the Kennedy Center and a professor of education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Vanderbilt's Peabody College.

"To have the opportunity to work at Peabody College, which is on the cutting edge of new thinking about child development, and to be able to put that into practice at the Susan Gray School is very exciting," Farran said.

Farran came from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she was a professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. She chaired the department from 1987-1994.

In other news, new officers of the Friends of the Susan Gray School have been elected for 1996-1997. They are: Ann Marie Deer Owens, president; Doug Knall, vice president; Janis Gaudette, treasurer; and Anneke Thompson, secretary.

The Susan Gray School serves up to 90 children from birth to age 4 who are at risk because of developmental disabilities. It is part of the John F. Kennedy Center at Vanderbilt, a leading national research center for children with special needs.
