Owen Graduate School of Management professor honored

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Barry Gerhart, a professor at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management, has received the highest honor that can be bestowed by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP).

Gerhart, the Frances Hampton Currey Professor of Management and Organizational Studies at Vanderbilt, was one of seven researchers who have been elected Fellows by SIOP.

“Only a small number of people are recognized in this manner,” said Angelo DeNisi, president of the 6,000-member organization. “These are men and women whose research is considered exemplary and who have made unique and unusual contributions to the growing knowledge base in industrial-organizational psychology.  There is no greater acknowledgement of professional excellence in this field than to be elected a fellow.”

Gerhart was recognized for his compensation studies, including skill-based pay and the relationship between pay policies and organizational performance and workforce stability. He has also made important contributions in research on person-organization fit and the debate regarding the sources of influence on job satisfaction and turnover, DeNisi said.
