Motorola makes gift to Vanderbilt engineering program
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Motorola Foundation recently made a $5,000
gift in support of the Preparatory Academics for Vanderbilt Engineers (PAVE)
program. This gift was in recognition of the Vanderbilt/PAVE alumni placement
program through which Motorola recently hired five students for their Malaysian
facility.
Bob Spinks, manager of the International Sourcing and Recruitment Semiconductor
Products Sector of Motorola, presented the check on July 2 to John Veillette
of the School of Engineering. Veillette is assistant dean for preparatory
academics and the founding director of PAVE.
PAVE is a six-week summer program for rising seniors and recent high school
graduates. The multidisciplinary curriculum is designed to help students
adjust more quickly to college by focusing on academic requirements and
study skills. Activities include in-depth problem solving, computer skills,
laboratory experiments and technical writing. Student participants have
access to all campus academic and recreational facilities and can also take
part in non-academic weekend activities.
