Vanderbilt Dining receives grand prize

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- The Rand Restaurants Project, Two Avenues Marketplace at Vanderbilt University has been awarded the grand prize in the Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards Contest in addition to first place in the cash sales division. The announcement was made July 10 at the Dining Awards Luncheon in the Anaheim Hilton and Towers.

The Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards Contest is sponsored by the National Association of College and University Food Services to recognize excellence in residence hall dining, catering, cash sales, specialty events and specialty restaurants or shops. The Dining Awards Luncheon is held to recognize the first, second and third place winners in each category and to announce the grand prize winners.

The award was based on an entry compiled by Laura Nairon, manager of public relations for Vanderbilt Dining, Rand manager MerÝd Supervisor¿Rand Restaurants Carol Hows. The entry contained photographs and menus of each of the restaurants in Rand: Simple Bean, The Muffin Tin, Bandana Baskets, The Wild Noodle, Farmers Market, Van Go, Chef James' Rotisserie Round-Up, Taipei Caf_, Kaleidoscope Deli and Blue Corn Cocina. Rand was renovated and all of the menus updated in the summer of 1997.

"We're very excited about receiving this recognition from our peers in support of the Rand renovation," said Nairon. She stressed that the success of the entry is due to a collaborative effort made by the Vanderbilt University dining staff.
