Betty Price named Vanderbilt's controller

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Betty L. Price has been named Vanderbilt University controller, with responsibility for ensuring the coordinated and appropriate operation of the University's financial systems.

Price, associate controller since 1986, will assume her new responsibilities immediately, according to Vice Chancellor for Finance Lauren J. Brisky.

"We are extremely pleased that Betty has agreed to serve the University as controller," Vice Chancellor for Administration William A. Jenkins said. "During her tenure with Vanderbilt, she has approached her responsibilities with enjoyment, vigor and professionalism. Her dedication to the University and to her profession is outstanding. We expect this special enthusiasm to only continue with her new role"

As controller, Price's responsibilities include maintaining adequate levels of control and security over financial matters, working closely with internal and external auditors, helping establish appropriate financial policies and procedures, ensuring optimum utilization of financial resources and systems, and supervising and reviewing the preparation of financial reports.

Price, a certified public accountant, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of business administration from Middle Tennessee State University. She received an MBA summa cum laude from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt.

Before joining Vanderbilt, she was manager of accounting and financial reporting at Ryder Financial and Communication Services, Inc., a subsidiary of American Express. She earlier was audit manager for KPMG Peat Marwick in Nashville.

Price is president of the Nashville Chapter of the Tennessee Society of CPAs, a member of the National Industry subcommittee of the American Institute of CPAs, a member of the board of the Vanderbilt Owen School National Alumni Association and a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers.
