Goals

Issues in Critical Investigation defines a new initiative that is designed to:

  1. Support the development of critical thinking and writing in the Humanities and the Social Sciences on topics related to the global African Diaspora and its specific manifestations in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, the Russian Republics, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the island countries off the West and East coasts of the sub-Saharan African continent.
  2. To augment cross-generational dialogue between tenured and non-tenured professors in the Humanities and Social Sciences as the latter relates to African Diasporic studies.
  3. To foster a cooperative model of scholarly production and performance by providing a strategy for the mentoring of non-tenured professors by tenured professors.
  4. To increase the field visibility of African Diasporic studies among the human sciences and to improve the distinction between subfields within the broader field of these studies.
  5. Model the demands of scholarship and the commitment to reading and writing for undergraduate populations, some of whom may be poised to pursue graduate studies in the Humanities and the Social Sciences.
