Definition: A critical incident is "any event that has the potential to produce unusual or distressing emotional symptoms such as an accident, injury, death, disaster, threat or act of violence, or other traumatic event at the workplace." Response: CISM facilitators respond to critical incidents/traumatic events affecting the Vanderbilt community. They have experience in providing psychological interventions (critical incident stress management techniques) such as defusing, degriefing, and debriefing, crisis management briefing and other forms of crisis intervention. Protocol: To inquire about CISM Interventions faculty/staff can contact our office during weekdays at (615) 936-1327. After hours and on weekends, faculty/staff can call the Emergency Department or Vanderbilt Security. (click here for step by step protocol) |
