Meet Work/Life Connections-EAP
Jim Kendall

Jim Kendall, LCSW,ACSW, CEAP serves as the Manager for Work/Life Connections-EAP. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned his MSSW at the University of Tennessee College of Social Work in 1978 after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Prior to joining Vanderbilt , Jim was the Executive Director for the PSI Solutions Center and Director of Access at Parthenon Pavilion. In 1990, while serving as Program Director for their inpatient psychiatric program, he started an Employee Assistance Program for Williamson Medical Center. He is the Clinical Director for the Tennessee Critical Incident Stress Management volunteer program serving emergency workers.

 

Ellen Trice

Ellen Trice, LCSW, CEAP, LEAP is the Clinical Manager for Work/Life Connections-EAP. In 1975, she was selected by the University of California at Berkeley to begin their first employee assistance program. In 1980, Ms. Trice returned to Nashville and worked at Textron Aerostructures as their EAP. In 1992, Vanderbilt recruited Ms. Trice as the first full-time EAP Coordinator. Ellen earned her BS from Peabody in Human Behavior and her MBA from Vanderbilt University. She completed her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. She is a licensed clinical social worker and certified as an EAP professional and social worker.

 

Paul Ragan

Paul Ragan, MD is a Board Certified Psychiatrist who serves as the Medical advisor to the Program. He is the Program Director for the Faculty and Physician Wellness Program. Dr. Ragan is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine, Director of the Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry Service at VUMC and Director for the Substance Abuse Treatment Program at the VA Hospital in Nashville. He is Board Certified in Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Ragan earned his BA from Dartmouth College and his MD from the University of Arizona. He completed his Internship and Residency in psychiatry at the National Naval Medical Center with training in psychodynamic psychiatry.

 

Mary Yarbrough

Mary Yarbrough, MD, MPH--Dr. Yarbrough is the Director of Health and Wellness at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She has responsibility for faculty and staff services in both the University and Medical Center at Vanderbilt. These services include the Occupational Health Clinic; HEALTH Plus, Vanderbilt's health promotion program; Work/Life Connections-EAP, including Faculty & Physician and Nurse Wellness Programs; and the Child and Family Center. Prior to coming to Vanderbilt, Dr. Yarbrough served as the Director of Environmental Epidemiology for the State of Tennessee. She received her B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering and her MD from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Yarbrough completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt and in Preventive Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. She is an Assistant Professor of both Medicine and Preventive Medicine at Vanderbilt, is boarded by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in both Occupational Medicine and Public Health and General Preventive Medicine, is boarded by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a former Luce Scholar. Dr. Yarbrough has served as President of the Tennessee College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and is currently the Tennessee Delegate to the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). Dr. Yarbrough also serves on ACOEM's Board of Directors.

 

Margie Gale

Margie Gale, RN, MSN joined the staff in September 2002 as the Nurse Wellness Specialist coordinating the Nurse Wellness Program efforts. Margie has been an RN since 1973. She is also a Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist having been in private clinical practice, a nursing instructor at the Vanderbilt School of Nursing, Meharry Medical College and at Columbia State Community College, and a consultant for several community programs. Margie started her nursing career as a staff nurse for the Inpatient Psychiatric Service at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Nashville. In 1988, Margie worked for the PASS, an Employee Assistance Program for the Nashville Police Department. Currently, Margie facilitates the weekly educational and support group for the Williamson Bridges Domestic Violence Program. She is actively involved in the Tennessee Nurses Association and a long standing proponent of Nurse Wellness efforts.

 

Harriett Boglin

Harriett Boglin serves as the Administrative Assistant for the Faculty and Physician Wellness Program of Work/Life Connections-EAP. Harriett earned her BS from Tennessee State University in Psychology. Before coming to the Work/Life Connections-EAP, Harriett served as Clerical Supervisor in the Occupational Health Clinic and also Assistant Office Manager in the Opportunity Development Center where she gained lots of useful knowledge of Disability Services, Affirmative Action, and Diversity. Harriett is looking forward to gaining experience & knowledge in Counseling that will help her in attaining her MS Degree in Counseling Psychology or Social Work.

 

Ellen Clark

Ellen Clark LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with twelve years of clinical experience working with adults, children, families and groups in a variety of settings. Ellen earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Oakland University and Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. In the past, Ellen has provided clinical services to Peninsula Hospital, The Village, Children's Psychological Services, Corporate and Employee Assistance, and Levi Strauss and Co. Ellen has also provided training for St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville, Catholic Charities, Alcohol and Drug Council, Tennessee State University, and the Crisis Intervention Center. She has been a presenter at statewide conferences and has taught graduate level courses at the University of Tennessee. She has a private practice in Nolensville, Tennessee.

 

Stephanie Dean

Stephanie Dean, MA, LPC-MHSP, CEAP, LEAP EAP Counselor is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed and Certified Employee Assistance Professional. She joined the Work/Life Connections-EAP Team in January 2008 after working as a Senior EAP for Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.  She served as the Director of Employee Assistance Programs for Family and Children’s Services in Nashville and was the EAP Director for Northcrest Medical Center.  She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. Stephanie's work experience began in community mental health, but she has been working in an internal/external EAP setting since 1997. Stephanie is active in Middle Tennessee EAPA and currently serves as President of the chapter. Away from work, Stephanie's family keeps her busy. She also enjoys re-modeling her 55 year old home, gardening, music, and motorcycling (wearing her helmet, of course).

 

Susan Lescher Susan Lescher is the Administrative Assistant for the office and serves as the liaison with the Hardship Committee. Prior to joining the staff, Susan provided administrative support services at a local Athletic Club for 13 years. She is a graduate of Belmont University.
James McFerrin

James McFerrin, MD is a Board Certified Psychiatrist who serves as a psychiatric consultant the Faculty and Physician Wellness Program. Dr. McFerrin is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at VUMC, has a private practice and is a staff psychiatrist for the VA Hospital in Nashville. He is the on the psychiatric staff at Parthenon Pavilion at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN and Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, TN.

Dr. McFerrin earned his BA from Vanderbilt University and his MD from the University of Tennessee. He completed his Residency in psychiatry at Vanderbilt and served as a Flight Surgeon in the U. S Army. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

 

Carol Milam, MD

Carol Proops Milam, MD serves as a psychiatric consultant for the Work/Life Connections-EAP Faculty and Physician Wellness Program. She is a graduate of the West Virginia University Medical School and completed her Psychiatric Internship and Residency at the University of Utah. Dr. Milam joined the Department of Psychiatry in 1992 initially as chief of the Consult Liaison Service and later as a clinical faculty member. Serving as Medical Director of Research from 1997-1998, Carol worked for the Mental Health Cooperative in Nashville from 1994-1998. She has also been a Lecturer for the School of Nursing. From September 1998 through the present she has been employed as a Psychiatrist at the Vanderbilt University Student Health Center. Dr. Milam is a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Her interests beyond the work place include multiple outdoor recreational activities, reading, yoga, cooking, and watching movies.
