Starting to Work at Vanderbilt: TB Skin Test Training Program

What is the TB Skin Test Training Program?
The Occupational Health Clinic, in order to assist departments in implementing annual TB skin testing in the most efficient and convenient manner, has instituted a training program for occupational related skin testing. This program allows the OHC staff to train/certify other health care professionals in the placement and reading of TB skin tests for faculty and staff. Skin testing in healthcare professions differs from non-occupational skin testing.

Why train others to place and read TB skin tests?
By training persons within units, the need for staff to leave their work areas is eliminated. Unit based certified staff can also handle the weekend workers that before were inconvenienced by having to come to the clinic during weekday hours.

When do you train people?
Training sessions occur approximately quarterly, based on the needs and requests for training.

How often must you be trained?
Once you have completed the initial training/certification process, you will need to be recertified by OHC yearly.

Is there a charge for this training?
No, there is not a charge for this service.

How do I know if I am qualified to be trained as a placer/reader?
You may call the clinic at (615) 936-0955.
