Purpose
Aussie Football is a fast moving, action packed sport with no timeouts, special teams or protective wear, just two teams, a football and the umpire who sticks his fingers out when there is a goal scored. No experience is necessary to join the club and there are plenty of positions for everyone who wants to participate. Also being Australia's national sport - its a fun way to find out about the United States mates from Down Under.
History
The Vanderbilt Australian Football Club was established in September of 2001 when it registered as a sport club at Vanderbilt University. This was done in co-operation with founding Club President Kristen Sadler; Vanderbilt Sport Clubs Director LaDonna Meuchel; and the Nashville Kangaroos.
Vandy Aussie Rules Club won their first championship at the 2003 Australian Festival beating representatives from Middle Tennessee State University, and Belmont University, combined with Nashville Kangaroos players.
Practice/Competition
Vandy Aussie Football normally meets for training two nights a week throughout the academic year. We also compete in various matches throughout the season as well as the National Collegiate Invitational, the Australian Festival Cup.
