Bowling Club

Purpose

VUBowl is a student run bowling league in which Vanderbilt students, as well as faculty/staff members, are given the opportunity to relax and take a break from the rigors of life on Vanderbilt. The league is open to anyone who is interested and ranges in all skill levels. The main focus of the club is just to have fun, and while there is a competition taking place, the league is handicapped to allow everyone a fair opportunity.

History

VUBowl was founded by Vanderbilt graduate Josh Melton in 2001. What started out as a group of seven close friends has grown into a melting pot of over 30 people spanning all disciplines including a few faculty/staff members as well as graduate and research students.

VUBowl has even formed its own intercollegiate team. Our first competition took place at the ACUI bowling tournament in Blacksburg, VA in February of 2002. Since then, we have competed in several other tournaments and hosted one of our own, the Music City Bowlarama.

Though our ventures into becoming a varsity sport did not come to pass, we caught the attention of Columbia 300, a manufacturer of bowling balls and equipment. The sponsorship of Columbia 300 has made us the first non-varsity club to receive corporate sponsorship at Vanderbilt as well as the first non- varsity team that Columbia 300 has ever sponsored.

Practice

We bowl every Thursday night throughout the entire school year.
