Survey of Choral Music (MUSL 145)

What musician is never apart from his or her instrument? Why, the singer, of course! Singing, the most popular of musical activities, has been a part of the development of humankind since pre-recorded (and not just 78s, LPs, cassettes, and CDs) history. While it has undergone many changes with regard to style, it remains essentially unchanged in its basic content--that is the use of the human voice to produce music.

Join us as we explore the development of choral singing from early chant to twentieth-century avant-garde and by way of Monteverdi, Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Stravinsky, and Bernstein, among many others. You may even get to sing along with some of the world's greatest choral ensembles as we study the master (and some minor) works of music's most comprehensive repertoire.

"He is a very good teacher, and I enjoyed studying with him and learning from his broad insight."
