Grades will be determined by hearings and daily grades [20%], C.A.T. (computer lab) composite grade [40%], and a final exam [40%] consisting of sightsinging, written melodic and harmonic dictation.
Plan to spend four hours weekly in preparation for class assignments, one of which should be devoted to the Ear-Training Lab. Your progress will be monitored and evaluated by computers which will keep records of assignments completed. Failure to reach assigned levels will result in failure of the course. No partial credit will be given for the composite grade. No extensions will be given.
This class functions as a laboratory class. Attendance is mandatory, and no make-up quizzes will be given. After one absence, each unexcused absence will result in lowering the final grade by one point. Absences will be considered excused with written documentation by a physician or the associate dean. If an excused absence occurs on a "daily grade" day, a make-up will not be given, but rather the final exam grade will be substituted for it. Unexcused absences on a "daily grade" day will result in the grade of zero for that task in addition to the final grade reduction.
Each student is expected to uphold the Honor Code : homework assignments, computer work, taking examinations, and substantiating absences.
