MEMORANDUM FOR All Cadets

 

SUBJECT:  Summer Cadet Professional Development Training Opportunities and Selection Policy

 

 

1.  Purpose.  To describe summer Cadet Professional Development Training (CPDT) opportunities and the policy for selecting and preparing cadets.

 

2.  Cadet Professional Development Training Opportunities.  Cadets may compete for the following CPDT opportunities:

 

a.  Air Assault.  Two-week course on helicopter operations at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and other locations.

 

     b.  Airborne.  Three-week course to qualify paratroopers at Fort Benning, Georgia.

 

     c.  Mountain Warfare.  Two-week course on military and survival skills in mountainous terrain at Ethan Allen Firing Range, Jerico, Vermont.

 

     d.  Northern Warfare.  Two-week course on military and survival skills in mountainous terrain, on glaciers, and inland waterways at Fort Greeley, Alaska.

 

     e.  Cadet Survival Training.  Two-week course on survival skills at the USAF Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

 

f.  Cadet Field Training.  Eight-week course to develop the leadership skills of MS II cadets at the USMA, West Point, New York and Fort Knox, Kentucky.

 

g.  United Kingdom Officer's Training Corps (UKOTC).  Three-week program in London or Cambridge available only to MS II scholarship cadets.  Cadets train with a British Army ROTC unit by firing their weapons, learning about branches of the British Army, conducting adventure training, and participating in a field training exercise. 

 

h.  Cadet Troop Leadership Training.  Three-week program in various locations available only to MS III National Advanced Leadership Camp graduates.  Cadets are matched with a serving platoon leader to become familiar with typical duties and responsibilities of lieutenants.  Allocations are based solely on MS class order of merit list standing and the number of slots we receive.  There is no requirement to attend the special physical training sessions to qualify for this training opportunity.  Interested cadets should identify themselves to the MS III instructor.

 

3.  Qualification Criteria.  Cadets must meet the following standards by 19 April to compete for selection:

 

          (1)  Cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher.

 

(2)  250 or higher on the APFT with at least 80 points in each APFT event.

         

(3)  Four-mile run in 36 minutes or less.

         

(4)  Six-mile run with ruck in 80 minutes or less.

         

(5)  Chin-ups. Males: Six repetitions; Females: Six modified repetitions.

         

(6)  Pass the combat water survival test for Northern Warfare applicants only.

 

4.  Selection Methodology.  The PMS selects or nominates cadets for CPDT training opportunities (except CTLT) from the OML developed from the following:

 

Academic GPA

   200 points

ROTC GPA

   300 points

Current APFT score

   500 points

Total

1,000 points

 

a.  Airborne School.  The PMS selects cadets for these schools from the OML.  Upon passing the airborne school medical examination, qualified cadets will be placed on a primary or alternate list based on their OML standing and number of schools slots we receive.

 

b.  Air Assault, Northern Warfare, Mountain Warfare, Cadet Survival Training, Cadet Field Training, UKOTC.  The brigade commander selects cadets for these schools from a consolidated OML. 

 

5.  Preparation.  All cadets who wish to compete for a CPDT (except CTLT) slot will prepare themselves as follows:

 

a.  Identify yourself to your MS Instructor.  Complete any required paperwork.

 

     b.  As desired, attend CPDT physical training sessions to increase your level of physical conditioning.  Training will be held 0600-0700 Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, March 11 through Friday, 19 April.  A training schedule will be distributed no later than 1 March.

 

c.  Complete the initial series of qualification tests the week of 18 March according to the following schedule:

 

     (1)  Three-mile run at 0600 on Monday, 18 March at Centennial Park Shed.

 

(2)  APFT at 0545 on Wednesday, 20 March at Centennial Park Shed.

 

(3)  Chin-ups, six-mile ruck run, and water survival test (Northern Warfare only) at 0600 on Friday, 22 March at the Student Recreation Center.

 

     d.  Complete a final series of qualification tests during the week of 15-19 April, as described above.
