This one-year course is designed to introduce students to the resources, methods and practices of biblical interpretation. Students will: (1) develop a general conceptualization about the critical study of the Hebrew Bible and Christian scriptures through exposure to the history and tradition of biblical criticism and interpretation; (2) gain an understanding of the general theoretical approach of each method through consideration of presuppositions, advantages, and disadvantages of each method; (3) gain practical experience by applying the methods learned; and (4) consider the implications of biblical criticism within their specific religious and vocational context. |
