Week 1: July 7 - July 11

Monday ... Orientation in room 6911 (Stevenson Science Center); administrative
activities (parking permits, room assignments, etc.); view video showing
research at Cornell, Fermilab and SLAC.

Tuesday ... Discussion of particle physics in room 6911; Guest lecture during
afternoon by Professor Volker Oberacker: "Introduction to Computational
Physics: Application to Nuclear Structure Theory."

Wednesday ... Meet with Professors Med Webster and Will Johns to learn about
measuring muon lifetime in cosmic ray counter experiment.

Thursday ... Learn about BaBar event displays, use computers in Microcomputer
Lab in Garland Hall.

Friday ... Meet with members of Professor Haglund's research group.
Discussions led by Dr. Ken Schriver including presentations by Michael
Papantonakis (laser fundamentals, material processing, etc.), Matthew
McMahon (photonics fundamentals) and Rene Lopez (nanoscience fundamentals);
afternoon session involved tours of facilites.
Week 2: July 14 - July 18

Monday ... Meet with Dr. Bill Gabella for full day of tours, lectures and
demonstrations at Free Electron Laser (FEL); joined by Beth Marchant, QuarkNet
education specialist who works with Vanderbilt...

Tuesday ... Meet Dean Richard McCarty at 9:30 am in room 6911; begin studies of
BaBar events with WIRED in Microcomputer Lab, Garland Hall.

Wednesday ... Meet at 9:30 am with Dr. Charles Coffey for tour and discussion
of medical physics facilities; Beth leaves Wednesday morning; meet with Dr. Mike Stone for discussion and tour of MRI facility.

Thursday ... Meet with Professor Steve Csorna in room 6333 at 9:30 am for
discussion of EUSO experiment, a detector attached to the space station that
will measure radiation from the highest energy cosmic rays; Meet with
Professor Ellen Fanning in her lab in the molecular biology building to discuss
her research and her education outreach program.

Friday ... Learn more about particle physics by studing event displays.
Week 3: July 21 - July 25

Monday ... Meet at 9:30 am to review status with visitor, Ginny Beal, who
is part of the QuarkNet evaluation team; Professor Len Feldman discusses
"nanophysics" topics in room 6333 beginning at 11 am; view video with lecture
by Dr. Haim Harari who discusses physics highlights of past 40 years at the
Stanford Linear Accelerator Center; visit the lab of
Professor Sandy Rosenthal in Chemistry building at 3 pm.....

Tuesday ... Meet at 9:30 am with Professors Webster and Johns to discuss
data collected with cosmic ray counter experiment for measuring muon lifetime;
lunch at Panvini home from noon to 2:30 pm; meet with Professor Vicki Greene
in room 6333 at 3 pm to discuss PHENIX experiment dealing with studies of
Quark-Gluon plasma.

Wednesday ... Meet with Professor Rob Knop at 9;30 am for discussion of
LBL experiment that measures accelerating expansion of universe from
observation of special supernova events; meet with Professor Johns at 1 pm for
discussion of experiment to measure velocity of light.
