Return To List of Colloquia
Go To Department Home Page
This website is intended to serve as a pedagogical resource for departmental colloquia. Besides the dates, speaker's names, title of talks and names of hosts, the website provides links to abstracts, slides or transparencies and, finally, to a list of references for each talk. Since these are colloquia, and not technical seminars, speakers are to be encouraged to tailor their talks to a broad non-expert audience. We will post PDF, Postscript or Powerpoint versions of the talks via the slides link. If a speaker uses the old-fashioned method of writing directly on to transparencies, we will scan the transparencies and create a PDF file that can be posted. The references link is able to access a variety of pedagogical resources. These range from "popular" articles at the Scientific American or Physics Today level to publications in Physical Review Letters. As a guide and an incentive for speakers and their hosts, we have posted examples of excellent slides and references, to be replaced as soon as possible with those that pertain to each colloquium. Take a look at what we have posted. You should find the material interesting.. .
