Atomic Bombs, The Manhattan Project,
and an explosive Nobel Prize

"Fat man" - Used on Nagasaki Thermal burns of a survivor.

Monday, April 2nd, Experiencing the After-Math

Monday we will be talking about the effects of a nuclear explosion. Later this week we'll be getting into the ethics and politics and all that good stuff, but for Monday try and keep your mind focused on the hard facts of what atomic bombs do. This could make discussion questions a little harder to think up, but you all are pros at this by now :

(1) Watch this interesting video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slTpUnACNqU Pay attention to how the homes erupt in fire before the blast demolishes their structure.

(2) Read this webpage outlining the effects of the atomic detonations on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We will not be directly covering Hiroshima or Nagasaki in class, but these give you an idea of the power of atomic bombs.

(3) The last webpage you are requested to read provides you with a good amount of information concerning the effects of a nuclear explosion.
