Teaching

The program emphasizes the need for teaching experience as well as the importance of the development of ideas. All students receiving departmental fellowships contribute to the teaching activity of the department for six semesters. They typically serve first as teaching assistants in a large course during their second year and then teach their own introductory courses during their third and fourth years. There is a student-run committee on teaching, and colloquia devoted to discussion of teaching issues.
