Advice to Students

  1. Each student should learn the requirements of the Graduate School and the Philosophy Department.
  2. A student should work closely with his/her advisors to map a strategy for meeting the Ph.D requirements.
  3. A student should pre-plan how to satisfy the logic and language requirements in the allotted time.
  4. A normal course load is three to four courses per semester. We strongly advise students to take four courses each of the first two semesters. One or more of these courses might satisfy or prepare a student to satisfy the logic or language requirements. Remember that graduate students in philosophy do not teach during their first year.
  5. Students who need to review a language should begin to do so the summer before they begin graduate study.
