In Star Wars, Lucas establishes Darth Vader’s status as part human and part machine, a cyborg. Lucas presents several scenes to ensure the viewerÂ’s knowledge that Vader has human components. First, in the scene of VaderÂ’s initial introduction to the audience, the sound of his heavy and labored breathing reveals that a human part of him needs air to survive. Secondly, also in Star Wars, Lucas provides a scene in which the audience catches a glimpse of the back of VaderÂ’s head before his helmet has lowered into its proper position. The fleshy tone and shape of VaderÂ’s head reveals his human head beneath the mask. Thirdly, possessing the ability to use the force in order to move objects or control the minds of others proves that Vader uses a human mind to control the minds of others. Finally, in The Empire Strikes Back, Vader reveals to Luke the father-son relationship they share. At one time Vader must have been human in order to produce a son. Clearly, Lucas has injected his film with enough evidence that Darth Vader has some human characteristics.
