If you believe the speculative fiction of most science fiction writers, if you believe in the futuristic fantasies produced by Hollywood and other cultural dreck, you should be shocked to find me here. People like me are not meant to have access to this equipment, either because we haven't the financial means or the interest in the technology. My concerns hold no relevance to anyone in these high-tech worlds, nor do they have any effect upon the futuristic social, cultural, political, or intellectual landscape. When I am not absent altogether, I float in the margins, objectified, co-opted, adding style, a sense of danger, ambiance. I am a prop, at best. I have no voice.
