Studio Art The department of Fine Arts has a small but active program in studio art that has offerings from traditional to experimental media. The program is located in a building designed in the 1920s by the noted architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White on the elegant lawn of the Peabody campus. Among the classes currently offered are drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, design, and multimedia. The classes are kept to a small size to allow for considerable individual attention. While students throughout the university are welcome to take studio courses, the classes are required for Fine Arts majors. At the end of both the Fall and Spring semesters, the best of each student's work is selected to be shown in the semi-annual Student Art Exhibition. Our department has a strong minor in studio art and provides the opportunity to compete for the Margaret Stonewall Wooldridge Hamblet Award, a sizable grant that allows the recipient to travel and to spend a year developing his or her art. We have recently instituted an interdisciplinary Pre-architecture program which takes advantage of the many resources offered by the University.
