My interests include chemical education for the college liberal arts student; chemical education for college science and engineering students; and K12 science education with emphasis on pre-service and in-service programs for teachers.

Currently, I am working on a project funded by the National Science Foundation that utilizes multimedia technology to illustrate application of chemical principles. CD-ROM provides an excellent mechanism for enhancing introductory chemistry laboratory experiments with real-life applications. The first CD-ROM produced in this work, called ChemWorld, was used in fall 1994 by 95 students in an introductory chemistry course for nonscience majors. ChemWorld has six post-laboratory video segments--three show middle school classroom students doing a hands-on activity and three are excerpts from The Stuff of Dreams, a three-hour program on new materials developed from research. Students view the post-laboratory video segment after completing the experiment related to the application.
