Vanderbilt Vernacular

A.X.L.E. – The core curriculum for the College of Arts and Science. It consists of four parts: the First Year Common Experience, the Writing Requirement, the Liberal Arts Requirement, and the Major. AP credit cannot be used to fulfill AXLE curriculum requirements.

BJJBCC – Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center

Commodore Card (aka The Card)–identification cards given to Vanderbilt students which controls access to residential and academic buildings, on/off campus dining, and flexible spending funds for the campus bookstore

Commodore Quake–Performances by a popular recording artists and student groups in celebration of homecoming

The Commons – New residential community for first–year students. The Commons is specifically designed to promote greater sharing of ideas by student, faculty, and visiting guests.

Frat Row – –the sorority and fraternity houses between Vanderbilt Place and West End Avenue

Memorial Gym–the athletic facility where SEC basketball games are held.
           
Outstanding Senior––the senior male/female chosen at homecoming by the student body

The Pub (aka Overcup Oak)–small restaurant that specializes in traditional pub food and is located on the top floor of Sarratt Student Center

Rand–the main campus dining facility located near Sarratt Student Center

The Rec––student recreational facility

Sarratt Student Center – student center located in the middle of the main campus

The Schulman Center – the Jewish Student Center

Vandy Vans–courtesy vans which transport students to designated campus locations
from sunset to early morning, a service of the Vanderbilt University Police Department

Vanderbilt Visions–extended first–year student orientation program

Varsity Markets (aka Munchie Marts)–markets which offer grocery items, snacks and beverages, grab–and–go sandwiches and salads, fresh baked goods, made–to–order foods, health and beauty items, bookstore supplies, and more

The Wall–the brick wall outside of Rand Dining Hall and the Vanderbilt Bookstore that’s a popular gathering spot and major advertising post for student organizations
