Notable Alumni

Distinguised Alumnus/A Award

The Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus/a Award was established in 1996 to recognize alumni who have furthered Vanderbilt’s mission through outstanding achievement and service. Previous recipients of the award are:

Muhammad Yunus, who received his doctorate in economics; Dr. Norman E. Shumway, a graduate of the Medical School; Cal Turner Jr., who earned his B.A. at Vanderbilt; Delbert Mann, who also earned his B.A. at Vanderbilt; Dr. Antonio Gotto, a graduate of Vanderbilt and of the Medical School; Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Jr., who earned his B.A. at Vanderbilt and served as a House Officer/Fellow at the Medical School; Dr. Mildred Stahlman who pioneered modern neonatal care around the world; and Rev. James Lawson, minister, civil rights leader, and activist worldwide.
