The American Economic Association publishes three economics journals—the American Economic Review (AER), the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL), and the Journal of Economic Perspectives (JEP). In 2007, AER was the most viewed of all 775 academic journals archived by JSTOR. The Association adds four new journals to its publications in 2009: (1) American Economic Journal: Applied Economics; (2) American Economic Journal: Economic Policy; (3) American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics; and (4) American Economic Journal: Microeconomics.

We expect the quality of economic research in the new journals to be similar to that in the AER, and are reducing even further the already low subscription price of our journals to an annual average of $60 each for 2009. We do this by maintaining a large subscription base and keeping administrative costs low. We accomplish the latter partly by requiring advanced payment in U.S. dollars for all orders, thereby eliminating costs of a credit department, bad debts, collections, and international money exchange.

All institutional subscriptions to AEA publications will include the four new journals in 2009. The seven AEA journals are $420 for 2009. Although AEA journals are among the leading economics journals, they are sold at the lowest price per page of all economics journals (see: http://www.econ.ucsb.edu/~tedb/Journals/jpricing.html).

To further simplify distribution and reduce costs, after December 2008, AEA will no longer accept institutional orders for the American Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Literature, and the Journal of Economic Perspectives in CD format. Instead, we now offer electronic site licenses with or without an accompanying print subscription.

Sites are defined as campuses within a six-mile radius, as well as authorized remote users accessing the online journals through the campus IP address. Remote campuses beyond a six-mile radius must purchase a separate subscription regardless of the location of the administration.

You can order AEA journals with Subscription Forms: USA or Non-USA. For answers to questions, or for help subscribing, call 615-322-2595 or email aeainfo@vanderbilt.edu.
