Douglas Steigerwald

Douglas Steigerwald PhotoDoug Steigerwald graduated with a degree in economics from Pomona College.  He then spent two years in Washington DC, working for the Federal Reserve Board.   Doug then returned to California, where he did his graduate work in economics and statistics at UC Berkeley.

Doug is a professor of economics at UC Santa Barbara.  His research group, which currently has nine students, focuses on econometric methods and applications with a principal focus on issues concerning the environment and education.  He and his wife Julia Lowell, who is an economist at RAND, have a son Gregory.  When not in town, Doug can often be found rock climbing and mountaineering in the Eastern Sierra.
