Janice Shack-Marquez
Janice Shack-Marquez received her BA in psychology from Johns Hopkins University in 1978 and her Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983. She was a labor economist at the Bureau of Labor Statistics from 1983 to 1986 where her research focused on survey methodology and measurement issues in the Current Population Survey. She then joined the Division of Research and Statistics of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C. where she first had responsibility for forecasting the performance of the U.S. labor market and then worked on the Board’s Survey of Consumer Finances.
In 1994, she shifted gears and took over responsibility for the division’s automation and research computing group. In 1997, she was promoted to the official staff of the Board. She is currently a Deputy Associate Director in the Division of Research and Statistics and has oversight responsibility for budgeting, recruiting, personnel, the research library, and the research computing network. She is actively involved in a wide range of Board-wide and Federal Reserve System management issues relating to recruiting, hiring, and retaining a diverse work force. Janice lives in Arlington, Virginia with her husband, Jaime Marquez, a senior economist at the Federal Reserve Board, and their daughters, Cecilia and Bianca.
